Description

The engineering breaching system is an integral part of the assault breacher vehicle (ABV) and is the subject of this procurement. The ABV provides a deliberate and in-stride breaching capability of complex explosive and non-explosive obstacle(s) to the assault elements of the heavy brigade combat team (hbct) and the ground combat element (GCE) of the marine air ground task force (magtf). The army s ABV consists of an M1A1 tank hull with a specially designed and fabricated turret which has two mine clearing line charges (miclic) mounted on a linear demolition charge system (ldcs) and reactive armor tiles. The ABV also has: 1) the engineering breaching system including a high lift adapter (HLA) mounted on the front of the hull which allows the full width mine plow (fwmp) and dozer blade to be rapidly interchanged by a crew of two soldiers; 2) a lane marking system (LMS); and, 3) an integrated vision system (IVS) allowing the crew to view 360 degrees day or night in various weather and combat environments. As a joint army-USMC program, the engineering breaching system s surface mine plow subsystem (smps) and rapid ordnance removal subsystem (rors) will also be procured for the remaining USMC abvs.
