The Department of the Army has awarded Northrop Grumman Systems Corporation's Weapons Systems Division a $490 million Indefinite Delivery Contract (IDC) titled "Special Ammunition and Weapon System (SAWS)". This multiple-award IDC contract, managed by the Army Materiel Command, will facilitate the procurement of various types of special ammunition, mortar ammunition, small caliber ammunition, and rocket spin stabilized grenade ammunition, as well as non-standard mortar weapon systems. The contract has a period of performance through October 2028.

As part of this IDC, Northrop Grumman was recently awarded a $20,000 firm fixed price delivery order to fulfill the minimum guarantee requirements of the original SAWS solicitation. This order does not utilize any set-aside designations. The place of performance for this initial delivery order will be Northrop Grumman's facility in Radford, Virginia. The broader SAWS contract vehicle has a ceiling value of $750 million and enables the Army to acquire a wide range of specialized ammunition and weapons systems to support evolving military requirements.
