The Department of the Interior's Bureau of Land Management (BLM) awarded an Indefinite Delivery Contract (IDC) to Bighorn Airways Inc., a for-profit aviation services company based in Sheridan, Wyoming. The contract has a ceiling value of $14,738,185.00 and a period of performance from March 1, 2021 through February 28, 2026. Under this IDC, Bighorn Airways will provide fixed-wing aircraft and crew to deliver smokejumper flight services in support of the BLM Alaska Fire Service at Fort Wainwright, Alaska. The contract is for a single award with no set-asides used. Bighorn Airways currently holds several other active IDV contracts with the BLM and U.S. Forest Service to provide specialized aerial firefighting, cargo transport, and personnel transport capabilities across the western United States. The original solicitation, which was posted as a pre-solicitation notice, indicated the BLM's requirement for two contractor-operated and maintained multi-engine turboprop aircraft to transport and drop smokejumpers, conduct reconnaissance, and support other natural resource missions. The contract will enable the BLM to rapidly acquire Bighorn's aviation services to enhance wildfire response and support other critical missions in remote areas of Alaska.
