The Kalamazoo Institute of Arts (KIA) received a $199,006 Project Grant award from the National Endowment for the Humanities under the Promotion of the Humanities Public Programs (CFDA 45.164) federal grant program. The grant will support KIA's core humanities programming and staff salaries, and fund the creation of two new exhibits - one on masculinity from the 1960s to present, and another on women's influence on art and culture in the 1950s. Additionally, the funding will enable KIA to conduct interviews and produce a documentary video exploring how hundreds of individuals in the region built the museum's permanent collection into a reflection of Western Michigan identity. The intended beneficiaries are museum visitors and other members of the public interested in the history and culture of Western Michigan. The grant period is from January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2022. No sub-award activities are planned.
