ENHANCING ACCESS TO ARKANSAS HISTORY AND CULTURE THROUGH CREATION AND DISSEMINATION OF ONLINE CONTENT [RETENTION OF THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF ARKANSAS' STAFF HISTORIAN, WHO WOULD FACT-CHECK HUNDREDS OF ENTRIES FOR THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE SINGLE SOURCE ON THE HISTORY AND CULTURE OF ARKANSAS AND PERFORM RELATED OUTREACH ACTIVITIES; STIPEND SUPPORT FOR WRITERS WHO CONTRIBUTE ENTRIES TO THE ENCYCLOPEDIA; AND WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT TO IMPROVE THE EOA PLATFORM AND MAKE ARCHIVAL MATERIALS MORE ACCESSIBLE TO THE PUBLIC.] [PURPOSE: THIS PROJECT WILL ALLOW THE CENTRAL ARKANSAS LIBRARY SYSTEM (CALS) TO CONTINUE CONTRIBUTING TO THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF ARKANSAS (EOA) BY FACT-CHECKING ENTRIES AND CREATING NEW ONES. THIS WILL ALSO HELP RETAIN A POSITION IN CALS, FUND STIPENDS FOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE EOA, ENHANCE THE EOA WEBSITE, CONTRACT A WEBSITE DEVELOPER, AND PERFORM OUTREACH PROGRAMMING.  ACTIVITIES TO BE PERFORMED: THE EOA STAFF HISTORIAN WILL COMPLETE FACT-CHECKING WORK ON APPROXIMATELY 35 ENTRIES A MONTH. THEY WILL ALSO CONTINUE TO ASSESS AND ADD CONTENT TO THE EOA. THE EOA WILL PAY 400 CONTRIBUTORS TO WRITE AND PUBLISH ENTRIES TO THE ENCYCLOPEDIA.   THE PROJECT WILL MIGRATE THE EOA FROM ITS CURRENT PLATFORM TO WORDPRESS FOR EASE OF USE. THE EOA WILL ALSO CONTRACT A WEB DEVELOPER TO WORK ON THE FRONT-END USER INTERFACE, INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL SEARCH FUNCTIONALITY, INTERNAL AND REVERSE LINKING OF ENTRIES AND MEDIA, AND CONNECTIVITY OF THE BACK-END DATABASE.  LASTLY, THE PROJECT WILL ALLOW CALS TO CONTINUE ITS OUTREACH ACTIVITIES, SUCH AS VIRTUAL LECTURES AND FACEBOOK ENGAGEMENT. CALS WILL ALSO MAKE SURE EOA ENTRIES ARE PAIRED WITH LESSON PLANS FOR TEACHERS TO MAXIMIZE THEIR USE.  EXPECTED OUTCOMES: THE STAFF HISTORIAN'S FACT CHECKING, ASSESSING, AND ADDING OF CONTENT TO THE EOA WILL MARKEDLY GROW THE DATABASES CURRENT 5,000 ENTRIES. THE EOA WILL ALSO FUND THE WRITING AND PUBLISHING OF APPROXIMATELY 400 CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE ENCYCLOPEDIA. UPGRADING THE EOA WEBSITE WILL INCREASE USER EXPERIENCE AND, POTENTIALLY, ENGAGEMENT THROUGH INCREASED INTERFACES, SEARCHABILITY, LINKING, AND DATABASE CONNECTIVITY. FINALLY, THE EOA WILL BE ABLE TO CONTINUE OUTREACH THROUGH VIRTUAL LECTURES, SOCIAL MEDIA, AND PREPARING LESSON PLANS FOR EDUCATORS.   INTENDED BENEFICIARIES: THIS PROJECT WILL & NBSP;BENEFIT THE STAFF OF THE EOA/CALS, AS WELL AS THE USERS OF THE WEBSITE. THESE USERS MAY BE ARKANSAS NATIVES OR PUBLIC AND ACADEMIC SCHOLARS WITH AN INTEREST IN THE STATE'S HISTORY. IT WILL BENEFIT CONTRIBUTORS TO THE EOAS ENTRIES BY FUNDING THEIR WORK, AND IT WILL BENEFIT EDUCATORS THROUGH THE EOA'S CREATION OF LESSON PLANS.  SUBRECIPIENT BENEFITS: THIS PROJECT WILL SUBAWARD $26,100 TO CONTRACTORS FOR WEB DEVELOPMENT AND HOSTING SERVICES. ]
