APPLICATION PURPOSE: THIS APPLICATION IS TO REQUEST A COMBINED $6800000 IN FY21 AND FY22 FTA SECTION 5307 PASSENGER FERRY GRANT PROGRAM FUNDING AWARDED TO THE GOVERNMENT OF THE U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS TO PURCHASE A NEW FERRY VESSEL. THE VESSEL WILL HAVE GREATER CAPACITY THAN THE CURRENT VESSELS AND WILL BE USED ON FEDERALLY DESIGNATED ROUTE 32M BETWEEN ST. THOMAS AND ST. JOHN TO MEET INCREASED DEMAND ON THE EXISTING FERRY SCHEDULE. THE VESSEL WILL ALSO BE UTILIZED TO ACCOMMODATE MAINTENANCE AND OTHER REQUIRED DOWNTIME OF THE PRIMARY VESSELS.; ACTIVITIES PERFORMED: THE ACQUISITION OF A PASSENGER FERRY VESSEL TO ACCOMMODATE APPROXIMATELY 300 PASSENGERS WITH A LENGTH OF APPROXIMATELY 100 FEET.; EXPECTED OUTCOMES: THIS PROJECT WILL MEET INCREASED RIDERSHIP DEMAND IMPROVE SERVICE RELIABILITY AND MAINTAIN A STATE OF GOOD REPAIR ON THE ST.
