The United States Telecommunications Training Institute (USTTI) was awarded a $289,000 Project Grant from the Department of Commerce's National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) under the Special Projects program (CFDA 11.553). The purpose of this grant is for USTTI to develop and execute a mentoring and training program to enhance the skills and knowledge of the next generation of women digital leaders in Africa. The key activities to be performed under this grant include preparing the training curriculum, announcing the program and selecting participants, managing participant logistics, and assembling a team of mentors and experts from government, industry, civil society, and academia to assist with the program. The expected outcome is the creation of a group of program alumni that will help Africa's digital transformation and become digital economy leaders in their respective countries, with the intended beneficiaries being African women currently engaged in digital policy issues. This program is also a deliverable stemming from the December 2022 U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit and the Department of Commerce's activities under digital transformation with Africa. USTTI does not intend to sub-award any funds under this grant.
