THE PROGRAM MISSION IS TO IMPROVE THE HEALTH OF THE MEDICALLY UNDERSERVED OF DETROIT AND WAYNE COUNTY THROUGH TRAINING PSYCHIATRY RESIDENTS IN LOCAL FQHC AND COMMUNITY HEALTH AGENCIES (CMH)S. RESIDENTS ARE ENGAGED WITH FACULTY SUPERVISORS IN PROVIDING STATE OF THE ART PATIENT CARE, INCORPORATING BOTH COMMUNITY AND POPULATION HEALTH, WITH AN EMPHASIS ON AWARENESS AND REDUCTION OF HEALTH DISPARITIES. DURING RESIDENCY, ALL TRAINEES COMPLETE A CERTIFICATE PROGRAM IN POPULATION HEALTH. THE PRIMARY TRAINING GOAL IS THE PRODUCTION OF BOARD-CERTIFIED PSYCHIATRISTS WHO PRACTICE IN A PATIENT-CENTERED, EVIDENCE-BASED MANNER, TO HELP MEET THE GROWING DEMAND FOR PSYCHIATRIC PROVIDERS IN DETROIT, WAYNE COUNTY, AND MICHIGAN. PRIMARY TRAINING SITES ARE DEVELOPMENT CENTERS, INC. AND THE GUIDANCE CENTER (CMHS), AND CENTRAL CITY INTEGRATED HEALTH (FQHC) SELECTED PSYCHIATRIC PRACTICES, AND ASCENSION SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN HOSPITALS, LOCATED IN THE DETROIT AREA. ALL FACILITIES SERVE ANY AND ALL RESIDENTS OF DETROIT/WAYNE COUNTY, WITH A FOCUS ON VULNERABLE POPULATIONS. RESIDENT EDUCATION FOCUSES ON AMBULATORY CARE, WITH REQUISITE INPATIENT EXPERIENCE. RESIDENTS EXPERIENCE THE PATIENT-CENTERED MEDICAL HOME MODEL, EMPHASIZING PREVENTION, AND SCREENING PATIENTS FOR SOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH, MEDICAL CONDITIONS, AND MENTAL HEALTH CONDITIONS, FOCUSING ON PSYCHIATRY. TRAINING SITES ACCEPT ALL HEALTH INSURANCE PLANS, PROVIDE ENROLLMENT SERVICES FOR MEDICARE AND MEDICAID, AND ARE WORKING TO INTEGRATE BEHAVIORAL HEALTH WITH PRIMARY CARE. RESIDENTS COLLABORATE WITH FACULTY PRECEPTORS IN CONTINUOUS QUALITY IMPROVEMENT AND PATIENT SAFETY PROJECTS. RESIDENT PHYSICIANS ARE SELECTED FOR THEIR FIT WITH THE AUTHORITY HEALTH MISSION, THEIR PERSONAL VALUES, COMMITMENT TO VULNERABLE POPULATIONS, AND PAST EVIDENCE OF A SERVANT LEADER MENTALITY. THE QUALITY AND NUMBER OF APPLICANTS TO THE PROGRAM HAS INCREASED OVER THE EIGHT YEARS OF OPERATION. APPROXIMATELY 60% OF PROGRAM GRADUATES ARE PRACTICING IN PHYSICIAN OR PRIMARY CARE SHORTAGE AREAS. THE PROGRAM HAS ACHIEVED CONTINUING/ FULL ACCREDITATION THROUGH THE ACGME, WITH GRADUATES BEING 100% SUCCESSFUL IN PASSING THE SPECIALTY BOARD EXAMINATION IN PSYCHIATRY. 8. TOTAL FTE POSITIONS REQUESTED TO BE FUNDED UNDER THIS PROGRAM FOR ALL YEARS OF TRAINING (6-6-6-6) RESIDENT FTE: 24 9. FTE POSITIONS REQUESTED TO BE FUNDED FOR AY 2022: 20 (6-5-5-5)
