The Science and Technology Center in Ukraine will receive $400,000 through a Project Grant awarded by the Department of State Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation to support capacity building efforts related to small modular reactors (SMRs) in Ukraine. Funded through the Nonproliferation and Disarmament Fund (NDF), a program that provides flexible funding to address nonproliferation opportunities, the grant will allow the Center to assess SMR potential to meet Ukraine's future nuclear energy needs consistent with international standards for nuclear security, safety and nonproliferation. The Center will deliver technical and advisory services from January 2022 through December 2024 to help Ukraine evaluate SMRs and their role in the country's long-term energy strategy while upholding nonproliferation priorities.
