The federal Cooperative Agreement award U01EB035534 for $1,458,572.00, awarded by the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB), will fund the development of closed-loop triaxial optically pumped magnetometers for high-sensitivity and high-bandwidth magnetoencephalography (MEG) measurements of the developing brain. This project, under the NIBIB's Discovery and Applied Research for Technological Innovations to Improve Human Health program (CFDA 93.286), aims to advance...
This National Science Foundation (NSF) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I grant award of $275,000 to Adialante L.L.C. focuses on the development of techniques to facilitate the design and fabrication of affordable, compact, and patient-friendly magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) systems, particularly for pediatric applications. The project aims to innovate novel B1 imaging approaches, such as Frequency-Encoded and Phase-Encoded Frequency-Modulated Rabi-Encoded Echoes (FREE), that...
The National Science Foundation awarded a $266,000 Project Grant to Columbia University under the NSF Technology, Innovation, and Partnerships federal grant program (CFDA 47.084) to develop a wearable noninvasive brain imaging device using near-infrared light-based time-domain diffuse optical tomography. The device aims to improve clinical outcomes in neurology by enabling measurement of deep brain blood flow, which is difficult to measure with current technologies. The grant will support...
This $274,786 Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) award from the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Technology, Innovation, and Partnerships (TIP) program (CFDA 47.084) will fund the development of a cutting-edge scanning magnetometer microscope by Femtosenselabs, LLC. This new microscope technology will enable high-resolution imaging of novel magnetic materials with unprecedented sensitivity at the nanoscale, supporting the advancement of spintronics and the development of...
The National Science Foundation awarded Jelikalite Corp. a $276,000 Project Grant under the NSF Technology, Innovation, and Partnerships program to develop an EEG-guided transcranial photobiomodulation device for autism treatment. COMMERCIALIZATION READINESS OF WEARABLE OPTICALLY PUMPED MAGNETOENCEPHALOGRAPHY - ABSTRACT MAGNETOENCEPHALOGRAPHY (MEG) HAS ESTABLISHED ITSELF AS AN INDISPENSABLE TOOL FOR FUNCTIONAL BRAIN IMAGING, OFFERING UNPARALLELED SPATIAL AND TEMPORAL RESOLUTION WHILE BEING NON-INVASIVE. DESPITE ITS ADVANTAGES, CURRENT MEG SYSTEMS BASED ON SUPERCONDUCTING QUANTUM INTERFERENCE DEVICES (SQUIDS) ARE COST-PROHIBITIVE AND LACK ADAPTABILITY, PARTICULARLY FOR PEDIATRIC POPULATIONS. THIS PROJECT FOCUSES ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF A WEARABLE MEG SYSTEM BASED ON OPTICALLY PUMPED MAGNETOMETER (OPM) TECHNOLOGY, A NOVEL ALTERNATIVE TO TRADITIONAL SQUID MAGNETOMETERS. THIS INNOVATION ELIMINATES THE NEED FOR CRYOGENIC COOLING, THEREBY OVERCOMING SIGNIFICANT LIMITATIONS ASSOCIATED WITH TRADITIONAL MEG SYSTEMS. USING OPMS HAS ENABLED THE DEVELOPMENT OF A COST-EFFECTIVE, FLEXIBLE, AND HIGH-RESOLUTION MEG SYSTEM (OPM-MEG). OUR TECHNOLOGY AIMS TO MATCH THE SPATIAL RESOLUTION OF INVASIVE TECHNIQUES SUCH AS ELECTROCORTICOGRAPHY (ECOG), WHILE MAINTAINING THE NON-INVASIVE NATURE OF TRADITIONAL MEG. ADDITIONALLY, IT FEATURES A FLEXIBLE HELMET, ACCOMMODATING INDIVIDUALS OF ALL AGES AND ALLOWING FOR HEAD MOVEMENT DURING SCANNING-AN IMPORTANT ADVANCEMENT IN NEUROIMAGING TECHNOLOGIES. BUILDING ON OUR SUCCESSFUL PHASE IIB PROJECT, WHERE WE DEVELOPED AND DEPLOYED PROTOTYPE HIGH-DENSITY OPM-MEG SYSTEMS IN LEADING NEUROSCIENCE LABORATORIES, THE CURRENT PROJECT AIMS TO FINALIZE THE ESSENTIAL STEPS FOR THE COMMERCIALIZATION OF THIS GROUNDBREAKING TECHNOLOGY.
