This $2,811,226.54 Project Grant award from the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs (CFDA 19.017 - Environmental and Scientific Partnerships and Programs) will provide financial and technical assistance to three non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in priority countries to investigate nature crimes and support authorities in building nature crime cases.

The grant funding will support sub-awards to Mongabay to organize a fellowship program for journalists focused on nature crime reporting in the Andean Amazon and Indonesia. It will also fund sub-awards to the Rainforest Foundation US to build the capacity of indigenous organizations and leaders in the Peruvian Amazon to engage investigative and enforcement authorities to address nature crimes. Additionally, a sub-award to the Indonesian NGO Yayasan Auriga Nusantara will assist in investigating nature crimes and supporting authorities in making nature crime cases. The overarching goal is to increase NGO capacity, improve coordination between NGOs and law enforcement, and ultimately increase the number of nature crime cases pursued by relevant authorities.
