The Department of Education Office of Elementary and Secondary Education awarded the American Indian Science and Engineering Society $300,735 on October 1, 2025, for the SOAR: STEM Opportunities Advancing Readiness for the Public Schools of Robeson County project under the Indian Education—Special Programs for Indian Children program (CFDA 84.299).
The award funds STEM education and workforce development activities targeting Indigenous students and communities. The recipient, headquartered in Albuquerque, New Mexico, operates the largest national network supporting American Indians and Alaska Natives in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields, with over 7,200 individual members, 202 higher education chapters, and 239 affiliated pre-K-12 schools serving more than 55,000 Indigenous students.
Performance runs through September 30, 2027, with work performed in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The assistance type is a Project Grant. The program supports demonstration grants and professional development initiatives authorized under section 6121 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, with initial awards of up to three years renewable for an additional two years if the Department determines the grantee has made substantial progress toward stated objectives.
