The YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles was awarded a $2,000,000 Project Grant from the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Elementary and Secondary Education under the Innovative Approaches to Literacy; Promise Neighborhoods; Full-Service Community Schools; and Congressionally Directed Spending for Elementary and Secondary Education Community Projects (CFDA 84.215) program. The funding will enable the YMCA to provide high-quality and high-impact STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) and civic engagement programs for youth and teens in the Los Angeles area from September 2023 to August 2025.
Additionally, the YMCA received a $1,500,000 sub-award to fund literacy initiatives for children from birth through 12th grade at three local YMCA chapters through September 2024. As a subrecipient, the YMCA has also participated in the Child Care and Development Block Grant program, assisting the state of California in providing childcare for low-income families. Other subawards have enabled facility improvements, addressed food insecurity, and supplemented resources for families impacted by COVID-19.
