About this award

The U.S. Department of Education's Office of Elementary and Secondary Education has awarded a $1,000,000 Project Grant under the Innovative Approaches to Literacy (CFDA 84.215) program to Big Thought, doing business as Young Audiences Of Greater Dallas, a non-profit organization. This 10-month grant, awarded on August 16, 2023, will support the "REBOUND: CLOSING THE OPPORTUNITY GAP BY ATTACKING LEARNING LOSS AND STRENGTHENING EMOTIONAL AND SOCIAL RESILIENCE" project, which aims to address learning loss and build social and emotional resilience for children and students from birth through 12th grade in high-need areas of Dallas, TX.

Additionally, as a sub-grantee of The Onestar National Service Commission, Inc., Big Thought has been awarded funds to support AmeriCorps members serving as Opportunity Coaches for middle and high school youth in southern Dallas communities. These coaches will work to increase academic and social-emotional skills, youth agency, and eventual enrollment in higher education. Big Thought has also received funding from The Onestar National Service Commission, Inc. to develop an AmeriCorps program in Dallas County focused on education, without the need for AmeriCorps members.
