The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District (Uvalde Cisd) received a $1.5 million Project Grant award from the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Elementary and Secondary Education under the School Safety National Activities program (CFDA 84.184). The grant will support Uvalde Cisd's delivery of emergency response and violence prevention services from May 2023 through July 2024. Specifically, funding will aid trauma counseling and safety improvements to help students in Uvalde, Texas recover from a school shooting and enhance emergency preparedness. Previously, Uvalde Cisd obtained over $400,000 from the Department of Justice's COPS Office to upgrade security systems and implement violence prevention programs. As a local education agency, Uvalde Cisd additionally leverages federal formula grants administered by the Texas Education Agency to assist disadvantaged, disabled, vocational, and migrant student populations through July 2024.
