Description

Abstract
Biomedical imaging systems are an essential tool in research and development. In particular, multiphoton laser scanning microscopy is the tool of choice for imaging deep into living samples. We have developed a series of innovative optics and systems that unlock new capabilities for multiphoton imaging. In phase 1 of this project, we developed a novel microscope objective, scan engine optics, and a new type of scan engine. These components enable high resolution, large field-of-view, with long working distance air objectives. Compared to conventional microscopes, these products enable imaging across large fields of view with no trade-offs in line scan speed or resolution. In aim 1, we will build upon our success by creating a fully integrated, turn-key imaging system using our innovative components developed the prior phase. In aim 2, we will use our new platform for microscope objectives to create a highly corrected super-apochromatic objective from advanced multiphoton imaging. In aim 3, we will develop an add-on module for ultra high-speed 3D random access imaging for imaging voltage and other rapid signals. We will partner with university researchers to refine and validate these products and optimize their commercial potential. The impact on the field will be a new standard of optics for high-resolution multiphoton imaging, offering larger fields-of-view, higher scan speeds, and compatibility with a broad range of biological preparations.
