The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), through the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.855), awarded Big Eye Diagnostics Inc. a $797,183 direct-to-Phase II project grant to develop a rapid diagnostic test (RDT) for the surveillance of lymphatic filariasis (LF) caused by Brugia species parasites. The newly developed "Brugia Test Plus" (BT+) RDT has demonstrated excellent performance in both laboratory and field testing, meeting key criteria outlined in the World Health Organization's target product profile for LF surveillance. The grant funding will enable Big Eye Diagnostics to progress BT+ to manufacturing and commercialization within 2 years, providing a much-needed, field-deployable diagnostic solution to support LF elimination programs in Southeast Asia. This project builds on previous collaborative work between the company, USAID, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to create innovative diagnostics targeting neglected tropical diseases.
