Project Grant R43NS145846
- This federal Project Grant award of $345,114, provided by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) under the Extramural Research Programs in the Neurosciences and Neurological Disorders (CFDA 93.853) program, aims to develop a high-throughput small molecule screening platform to reduce the endogenous levels of the MSH3 protein for a potential disease-modifying therapy for Huntington's disease (HD). The research initiative focuses on leveraging a multi-faceted approach,...
- This Project Grant award of $499,988 from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) under CFDA 93.853, Extramural Research Programs in the Neurosciences and Neurological Disorders, supports research by Origami Therapeutics, Inc. to uncover the molecular targets of their potential brain-penetrant small molecule therapeutic ORI-113 for treating Huntington's disease. The goal is to selectively eliminate toxic mutant Huntingtin protein and reduce aggregates while sparing...
- The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) awarded a $450,313 Project Grant (CFDA 93.853 - Extramural Research Programs in the Neurosciences and Neurological Disorders) to The Johns Hopkins University to develop high-throughput screening (HTS) assays to identify activators of the nemo-like kinase (NLK) protein. The goal is to find small molecule compounds that can lower mutant huntingtin (mHTT) protein levels as a potential therapeutic approach for Huntington's...
- The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) awarded a $195,000 Project Grant under the Extramural Research Programs in the Neurosciences and Neurological Disorders (CFDA 93.853) to the University of Colorado-Denver. The 2-year grant, effective from April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2027, will support research to evaluate the feasibility of determining the mechanism of action of small molecule splicing modulators. These modulators have shown promise for efficiently modulating...
- The University of South Florida (USF) received a $141,650 Project Grant award from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) under the Extramural Research Programs in the Neurosciences and Neurological Disorders (CFDA 93.853) on September 8, 2023. The research project, titled "Nanoscopic Membrane Modulations Induced by Nanoscale Oligomers", will investigate the effects of nanoscale oligomers of the mutant Huntingtin protein on the properties of lipid...
- This Project Grant award from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), under CFDA program 93.853 Extramural Research Programs in the Neurosciences and Neurological Disorders, provides $621,073 to Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) to investigate cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) dynamics in Huntington's disease (HD). The overarching objective is to apply innovative neuroimaging methods to characterize changes in CSF production, transport, and resorption across stages...
- This Project Grant award of $1,064,194.00 from the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS), CFDA #93.350, supports the development of a wearable sensor platform called HDWear for remote monitoring of motor impairment in Huntington's disease (HD) and prodromal HD. The award enabled a 12-month study that enrolled 41 participants (21 with clinically diagnosed HD, 8 classified as prodromal HD, and 12 healthy controls) to validate the utility of HDWear for monitoring physical...
- This Project Grant award from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), under the Extramural Research Programs in the Neurosciences and Neurological Disorders (CFDA 93.853) program, supports research by Eikonizo Therapeutics, Inc. to develop next-generation histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6) inhibitors for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. The $499,766 award, active from August 1, 2025 to July 31, 2026, aims to evaluate the efficacy of Eikonizo's development candidate...
- The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) awarded a $1,830,581 Project Grant under the Extramural Research Programs in the Neurosciences and Neurological Disorders (CFDA 93.853) federal grant program to The Johns Hopkins University. The grant supports in-depth characterization of the mechanism of action of a new macrocycle molecule called RAPIREON, which selectively activates the nuclease activity of the IRE1 protein in the unfolded protein response (UPR) pathway....
- This Project Grant award from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), under the Extramural Research Programs in the Neurosciences and Neurological Disorders (CFDA 93.853) program, will support preclinical testing of a novel gene therapy for a rare pediatric neurodegenerative disease. The $419,482 award to the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center will fund studies to determine the minimal effective dose and post-symptomatic treatment efficacy of the...
This $490,501 Project Grant award from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), under the Extramural Research Programs in the Neurosciences and Neurological Disorders (CFDA 93.853), supports Janusq LLC, a startup biotech company spun out of Case Western Reserve University, in developing a peptide-based therapy called HV-3 for the treatment of Huntington's disease (HD). The key objectives of this 16-month project are to: (1) perform preliminary safety and toxicity assessments of the HV-3 peptide through in vitro and in vivo testing, and (2) evaluate the potency of HV-3 in an HD mouse model. This research builds on Janusq's prior work demonstrating that the HV-3 peptide can disrupt the interaction between the mutant huntingtin protein and valosin-containing protein, thereby reducing mitochondrial dysfunction and neuronal death associated with HD. The funding will enable Janusq to advance this potential peptide-based therapy towards further development and clinical evaluation as a treatment for the 30,000 diagnosed HD patients in the U.S.
