The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) awarded a $306,860 Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant under the Alcohol Research Programs (CFDA 93.273) to Prevention Strategies, LLC to develop and test the prototype of an online alcohol prevention game for 13-15 year olds. The game, titled "Classmates", is designed to strengthen social skills and personal values to deter the onset and progression of alcohol use and other illicit activities among adolescents. The prototype will be developed in partnership with Filament Games and High Point University's game design program, and will be tested with 40 adolescents to provide qualitative and quantitative feedback on the game's feasibility and viability for a potential Phase II project. The grant award period is from September 2024 to August 2025.
