The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) awarded a $147,422 Project Grant (CFDA 93.242 Mental Health Research Grants) to Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) in Uganda. The grant will fund a 3-year pilot feasibility study to co-design and evaluate an implementation strategy for the WHO Live Life Guide on suicide prevention, with the District Health Management Team (DHMT) serving as champions. The project aims to: 1) Co-design an implementation manual for the WHO Live Life Guide with the DHMT; 2) Evaluate the feasibility of the WLLDC-SP implementation strategy in rural Uganda; and 3) Build a community of practice and research capacity for suicide prevention. The study leverages MUST's existing research expertise in non-communicable diseases and implementation science to address the critical public health issue of suicide in Uganda. The project will train community stakeholders on evidence-based suicide prevention interventions and has the potential to build capacity for suicide research globally.
