The General Hospital Corporation Research Management Division, doing business as Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), has been awarded a $215,900 federal Project Grant under the National Institute of Mental Health's Mental Health Research Grants program (CFDA 93.242). The grant will fund the development and evaluation of a multi-level intervention, called TENDAI4PREP, to address individual and provider-level barriers to pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) uptake and adherence among pregnant persons in Zimbabwe.

The project will build upon MGH's previous work adapting an evidence-based problem-solving intervention (TENDAI) to improve antiretroviral therapy adherence and reduce depression among people living with HIV in Zimbabwe. For this new award, the TENDAI4PREP intervention will target increasing PrEP adherence and persistence during pregnancy, a critical period when the risk of HIV acquisition increases three- to four-fold. The project involves a collaboration between MGH, Boston University, and the University of Zimbabwe Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, which will serve as a sub-awardee to conduct all study procedures and activities in Zimbabwe over the three-year project period.
