The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) awarded Partnership To End Addiction a $251,309 Project Grant under the Alcohol Research Programs (CFDA 93.273) federal grant program. The purpose of this R34 grant is to develop and pilot-test digital helpline intervention components aimed at reducing heavy episodic drinking (HED) among postpartum women during the critical first 3 months after childbirth. The proposed study will apply a user-centered design process to create standard helpline interventions (assessment, psychoeducation, and resource referrals) as well as evidence-based brief interventions (motivational interviewing, coping skills training) tailored for the postpartum population and delivered via synchronous text messaging with a helpline specialist. A pilot factorial trial will then evaluate the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary impact of these helpline-based interventions on motivation, self-efficacy, self-regulation, and HED outcomes to inform a future larger-scale optimization trial. This project leverages Partnership To End Addiction's existing helpline infrastructure to develop and pilot these intervention components, which can ultimately support scalable future testing and implementation.
