About this award

The South Coast Water District (SCWD) in Laguna Beach, California was awarded a $200,000 Project Grant from the U.S. Department of the Interior's Bureau of Reclamation under the WaterSMART (Sustain and Manage America's Resources for Tomorrow) federal grant program (CFDA 15.507). The grant funding will be used to expand SCWD's existing Turf Removal Rebate Program, which provides incentives for residential and commercial property owners to remove high-water use turf grass and replace it with water-conserving California landscapes. This program aligns with SCWD's goals outlined in their 2020 Urban Water Management Plan to decrease potable water use, increase irrigation efficiency, provide groundwater recharge, and reduce dry-weather and stormwater runoff. The project is expected to be completed by December 31, 2026.
