Description
The upgrades and resulting efficiencies will leave more water available in the 15-mile reach of the colorado river, which is critical habitat for native and endangered fish. In this way, the project will support compliance with the endangered species act without injuring irrigators reliant on the grand valley project. The project shall implement technical upgrades to the government highline canal, a feature of the grand valley project, at existing check gates located at badger wash, 8 road, east salt, A49, and camp 7. Tasks to be completed: task 1 complete canal modeling for downstream control on the west end and develop control strategy for canal operations without the use of highline pumping plant. Task 2 remove existing PLC and rewire control panel to accommodate a new PLC at five government highline canal check structures (badger wash, 8 road, east salt, A49, and camp 7) implement the proposed new control. Task 3 remove existing radios and reconfigure site for new radios. Requires additional antennas, antenna cables. Install new repeater radios in the grand mesa repeater site. Task 4 install new redundant water level sensors and gate position sensors at five government highline canal check structures badger wash, 8 road, east salt, A49, and camp 7. Inspect and calibrate existing sensors. Task 5 program new PLC for existing upstream control as well as the new downstream control methods. Test and debug program.
