The Bard Water District, a not-for-profit water management organization located in southeastern California, was awarded a $1,077,430 Project Grant from the Department of the Interior's Bureau of Reclamation under the WaterSMART (Sustain and Manage America's Resources for Tomorrow) program (CFDA 15.507). The grant will fund the lining of a 1-mile section of the Upper Mohave Canal with concrete, improving water reliability in the Lower Colorado River System. The project will also enable local farmers to continue working with the Natural Resources Conservation Service's Environmental Quality Incentives Program to enhance their irrigation systems. Upon completion by March 31, 2025, the infrastructure improvements are expected to yield significant water savings and supply reliability benefits for agricultural users and tribal nations in the region during drought and water shortage periods.
