THE PROJECT ALSOINCLUDES INSTALLATION OF A VERTICAL KAPLAN HYDROPOWER TURBINE WITH A PLANNED CAPACITY OF 2,400KILOWATTS. THE PROJECT IS EXPECTED TO RESULT IN ANNUAL WATER SAVINGS OF 1,190 ACRE-FEET, WHICH ISCURRENTLY LOST TO SEEPAGE. WATER SAVED AS A RESULT OF THIS PROJECT WILL ALLOW THE DISTRICT TO DIVERTLESS WATER FROM SUN RIVER AT CRITICAL TIMES WHEN THE RIVER REACHES CRITICALLY LOW LEVELS, THEREBYIMPROVING INSTREAM FLOWS FOR FISH POPULATIONS AND RECREATION.
