Description

Abstract
This proposal requests partial support for an annual multidisciplinary summit on dengue virus (DENV) to be held in saranac lake, NY in september 2026 and september 2027. DENV is a pathogen spread by infected aedes aegypti and aedes albopictus mosquitos and currently found in over 100 countries around the world. An estimated 400 million people are infected with DENV every year, with nearly 100 million individuals experiencing clinically symptomatic infections and an estimated 40,000 people dying every year as a result of DENV infection. This gathering - called the dengue "endgame" summit - has been held three times before (august 2023, 2024, and 2025) and has brought together researchers, clinicians, countermeasure developers, and other stakeholders in the dengue field to discuss recent advances in understanding the basic biology of dengue as well as advances in countermeasure development, deployment, and utilization. The theme of the first iteration of the event (2023) was "imagining a world with effective dengue control", while the 2024 edition was entitled "a call to action toward dengue control". The 2025 dengue endgame summit: learning from the past, envisioning the future was held august 12-14, 2025, in syracuse, new york, hosted by the suny upstate medical university global health institute (GHI). The 2026 edition of the summit is entitled "global vision, local action", and seeks to build on the broad interdisciplinary vision of the prior iterations of the event. The summit is formatted to maximize attendee engagement and facilitate in- depth/robust discussion and to foster the development of new collaborations, filling a unique niche in the DENV research and countermeasure development conference space. The broad and long-term goal of this conference is to bring together key stakeholders in the dengue field from around the world to discuss not only the latest advances in the dengue field, but to also discuss how these advances and new knowledge may be best integrated and deployed to achieve sustained and effective dengue control around the world.
