About this award

The Hallie Q Brown Community Center Inc. received a $135,770 project grant award from the National Endowment for the Humanities under the Promotion of the Humanities Division of Preservation and Access program. The award will support processing, cataloging, and digitizing 22 historical collections held by the Hallie Q. Brown Community Archive that document the experiences of the African American community in St. Paul, Minnesota's Rondo neighborhood and the history of African Americans in the Upper Midwest following the Great Migration. Specifically, the one-year project beginning June 1, 2023 will improve access to and preservation of the collections, create digital surrogates to allow for online primary source research through the ContentDM platform, and enhance community outreach capabilities. The Preservation and Access program aims to ensure long-term availability of humanities resources by funding projects that promote preserving and providing intellectual access to archival materials.
