The National Endowment for the Humanities awarded Arizona State University $689,611 on November 1, 2026, under the Promotion of the Humanities Division of Preservation and Access program (CFDA 45.149) to digitally preserve and expand access to archaeological resources documenting the American Revolutionary War.
The Center for Digital Antiquity at Arizona State University will identify, aggregate, and curate thousands of dispersed archaeological reports, datasets, images, and GIS files within the Digital Archaeological Record (TDAR), ensuring long-term preservation and open, ethical reuse. The project consolidates legacy and born-digital materials that have remained poorly indexed and vulnerable to loss over decades of research. By unifying these resources, the award enables new humanities research into the lived experiences of soldiers, civilians, and tribal nations while supporting public history, education, and descendant community engagement. The project will establish durable cyberinfrastructure strengthening humanities scholarship and preserving the material record of the nation's founding conflict for future generations.
Work is performed in Arizona and runs through October 31, 2029. Arizona State University's Office of Research and Sponsored Projects Administration administers the award on behalf of the university.
