The National Endowment for the Humanities awarded the Secretary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, operating through the Massachusetts Archives, $328,320 on November 1, 2026, to conserve and digitize eight historically significant volumes foundational to American history under the Promotion of the Humanities Division of Preservation and Access program (CFDA 45.149).
The project encompasses conservation and digitization of the first three volumes of the Proceedings of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, dating from 1628–1657, and five volumes of Revolutionary War muster rolls from Ticonderoga and the battles of Lexington and Concord, dating from 1776–1782. All eight volumes are extremely fragile and require professional conservation to ensure preservation. Digitization will expand public access to the collection beyond what has previously been available.
Work will be performed in Massachusetts with a period of performance extending from November 1, 2026, through October 31, 2028. The assistance type is a Project Grant.
