The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) awarded a $319,588 Project Grant under the Promotion of the Humanities Division of Preservation and Access program (CFDA 45.149) to digitize 100,000 pages of historic newspapers from Arizona. The grant will be used by the Arizona State Library, Archives & Public Records (LAPR) and the University of Arizona Libraries (UAL) to partner as co-principal investigators on the National Digital Newspaper Program. The project aims to digitize newspapers that support the NEH's "American Tapestry" initiative, explore Arizona's development from territory to state, and represent cities and towns not previously covered. The sub-grantee, the University of Arizona, has extensive federal research and service capabilities across scientific, technological, and educational domains, which will contribute to the successful completion of this newspaper digitization effort.
