The Minnesota Historical Society was awarded a $500,008 Project Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities under the Promotion of the Humanities Division of Preservation and Access federal grant program (CFDA 45.149) to digitize 100,000 pages of Minnesota newspapers from 1690 to 1963 as part of the National Digital Newspaper Project. The Society, which holds the largest collection of Minnesota newspapers of any repository totaling over 4,000 titles, will scan newspaper pages from its collections and produce digital files, metadata, and duplicate microfilm per the National Endowment for the Humanities' technical guidelines. This two-year project commencing September 2022 is intended to preserve and provide access to these important primary sources documenting Minnesota's history and role in the economic development of the Northwest region through the Library of Congress's digital collections.
