THE REFLECTIONS THROUGH ART: INCLUSIVE ACCESS ON WATER TRAILS IN THE SUSQUEHANNA BASIN THROUGH AN ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCY PROGRAM WILL RECONNECT THE PEOPLE OF CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA TO THEIR LOCAL WATERWAYS AND TO THE RICH HISTORICAL, CULTURAL, ECOLOGICAL, AND RECREATIONAL ASSETS OF THE SUSQUEHANNA THROUGH PARTICIPATORY ART, STORYTELLING, AND PLACEMAKING. USING THE WELL-REGARDED ARTIST IN RESIDENCY APPROACH, THE PENNSYLVANIA ENVIRONMENTAL COUNCIL WILL FACILITATE 3 OPPORTUNITIES FOR LOCAL ARTISTS TO CONNECT COMMUNITIES TO THE SUSQUEHANNA RIVER BASIN. MEMBERS OF THE CREATIVE SECTOR WILL FOSTER AWARENESS, UNDERSTANDING, ADVOCACY, AND STEWARDSHIP OF PENNSYLVANIAS WATER TRAILS AND HELP PEOPLE SEE AND FEEL A CONNECTION TO THE SPECIAL PLACES THROUGH WHICH THESE WATERWAYS FLOW. THE INTERACTIONS BETWEEN THE ARTISTS AND LOCAL COMMUNITIES WILL LEAD TO A GREATER APPRECIATION FOR HOW ART CAN BE A POWERFUL APPROACH TO REIMAGINING WATER RECREATION AND CONSERVATION. THIS PROJECT WILL BRING PEOPLE TOGETHER TO SHARE IN A CREATIVE, INTERDISCIPLINARY, INTERACTIVE EXPERIENCE THAT WILL INSPIRE A MORE COLLECTIVE IMAGINATION AND WILL HELP ACTIVATE NEW AWARENESS OF WATER TRAILS IN THE SUSQUEHANNA BASIN. IT WILL ALSO SERVE TO DEVELOP NEW AND ORIGINAL WAYS FOR AUDIENCES TO ENVISION THEIR OWN CONNECTIONS TO THESE SPECIAL PLACES AND THE WAYS IN WHICH THEY CAN ENJOY, ACCESS, AND RESPONSIBLY TAKE PART IN RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES IN, ON, AND NEAR THE ICONIC SUSQUEHANNA RIVER.
