This is a federal Project Grant award of $1,497,470.03 from the National Park Service, under the Save America's Treasures (CFDA 15.929) program. The grant recipient, Coalfield Development Corporation, will use the funding to rehabilitate the historic Nenni Building in downtown Matewan, West Virginia. The project aims to restore the building's second floor to create a living history experience centered on the West Virginia Mine Wars and the life of labor leader Sid Hatfield. Key activities include installing new stormwater infrastructure, upgrading electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems, and completing interior renovations damaged by water leaks. This work will stabilize the building and enable Coalfield and its partner, the West Virginia Mine Wars Museum, to create an interactive exhibit to showcase this important chapter of American labor history. The project period is from October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2027.
