Description
An estimated 20,000 people were buried at potter's field, between 1852 and 1981. The exact number is not known because burial markers were only used between 1960 and 1964, just one indication of the severe disparity under which the bodies of the city's indigent dead were buried verses those with wealth. This grant will survey and locate the graves as a vital step in pre-preservation planning of the historic cemetery.
