The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded a $2,000,000.00 Project Grant to the County of Madison, New York under the Lead Hazard Reduction Grant Program (CFDA 14.900). This 3.5-year grant, awarded on April 15, 2024, will fund a comprehensive lead-based paint hazard control program in privately-owned, low-income housing in the Wampsville, NY area. Typical program activities will include lead inspections, risk assessments, interim controls, and abatement to protect children under age six from lead poisoning. The grant will also support building local capacity for lead-safe work practices, affirmative marketing of lead-safe units, and data collection to evaluate program outcomes. As a county government entity, the County of Madison will serve as both the prime recipient and work in partnership with state agencies to implement this federally-funded initiative at the local level.
