Demonstrating urban land remediation for specialty crop production

The federal Project Grant award of $495,903.77, awarded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) under the Soil and Water Conservation program (CFDA 10.902), is funding the Columbia Center For Urban Agriculture (doing business as Billy) to demonstrate urban land remediation for specialty crop production over a three-year period from August 1, 2024 to July 31, 2027. The organization specializes in urban agriculture, regenerative farming practices, and conservation programs, and through this grant, they will provide outreach, education, and assistance related to urban agriculture and conservation programs to agricultural producers, women landowners, and historically underserved producers in Missouri. Additionally, as a sub-awardee in partnership with the University of Missouri System, the Columbia Center For Urban Agriculture will expand outreach on project incentives to small and underserved producers, distribute information through various channels, and facilitate technical assistance linkages, including supporting connections between producers and technical assistance providers such as the Lincoln University Innovative Small Farmer's Outreach Program and University of Missouri Extension.
