The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded a $1,250,000 Cooperative Agreement under the Older Adults Home Modification Grant Program (CFDA 14.921) to the North Central New Mexico Economic Development District (NCNMEDD). This grant will enable NCNMEDD, a regional Council of Governments, to undertake a comprehensive program to identify and control lead-based paint hazards in eligible privately-owned rental and owner-occupied housing where children under age 6 reside. The funding will support cost-effective lead hazard control methods, build local capacity for safe and effective lead abatement, and establish processes to affirmatively market lead-safe units to families with young children. NCNMEDD will also collect pre- and post-treatment data to validate the impact of the lead hazard control investments and conduct targeted outreach and education on lead poisoning prevention.
