PROJECT DRUG FREE COMMUNITIES - SAPC'S PROJECT SPECIFICALLY TARGETS THE APPROXIMATELY 4,000 YOUTH IN GRADES 6 THROUGH 12 IN THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS AND HIGH SCHOOLS OF GRAND FORKS PUBLIC SCHOOLS. SAPC'S GOALS ARE TO INCREASE COMMUNITY COLLABORATION SURROUNDING THE PREVENTION NEEDED TO REDUCE YOUTH SUBSTANCE USE OF ALCOHOL, MARIJUANA, AND TOBACCO AS WELL AS INCREASE THE PERCEPTION OF HARM FOR USAGE. TO ACCOMPLISH THESE GOALS, SAPC'S OBJECTIVES ARE: STRENGTHEN COMMUNITY CAPABILITIES PROVIDE LEADERSHIP AND ADVOCACY TRAINING TO YOUTH REDUCE 30-DAY ALCOHOL AND MARIJUANA USE AND TOBACCO MISUSE IN YOUTH AGES 12-18 REDUCE RETAIL AND SOCIAL ACCESS OF ALCOHOL TO YOUTH DECREASE PERCEPTION IN COMMUNITY THAT UNDERAGE DRINKING IS ACCEPTABLE INCREASE PERCEPTION OF RISK AMONG YOUTH REGARDING MARIJUANA USE AND TOBACCO MISUSE THE ACTIVITIES PROPOSED BY SAPC TO ACHIEVE THESE OBJECTIVES ARE: HOLD MONTHLY COALITION MEETINGS, AND PROVIDE MONTHLY UPDATES ON ACTIVITIES TO COMMUNITY LEADERS STRENGTHEN COALITION BY RECRUITING NEW MEMBERS AND COLLABORATING WITH OTHER ORGANIZATIONS, LEADERS, AND KEY PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS. DELIVER INFORMATIVE PRESENTATIONS ABOUT THE COALITION TO UNDER-REPRESENTED COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS. PROVIDE PARENTING MEETINGS OR WORKSHOPS ON HOW TO BUILD A STRONG PARENT-CHILD RELATIONSHIP THAT PROMOTES AND ENCOURAGES SAFE AND HEALTHY DECISION-MAKING FOR OUR YOUTH. CONTINUE MEDIA AND MARKETING CAMPAIGNS AND DISSEMINATE TO THE COMMUNITY THROUGH VARIOUS MEDIUMS THAT HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFUL SUCH AS TIK TOK, SNAP CHAT, RADIO, MOVIE THEATER PREVIEWS. PROVIDE THE HELPING HANDS PROGRAM TO GRAND FORKS YOUTH EXPAND DIVERSION AND PREVENTION OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUTH WHO ARE CHARGED WITH ALCOHOL, MARIJUANA OR TOBACCO OFFENSES. PARTNER WITH GF PUBLIC SCHOOLS TO PROVIDE INFORMATION TO PARENTS AND STUDENTS ON SUBSTANCE USE THROUGH NEWSLETTERS, WEBSITES, CHANNEL 15 AND "TOILET TALK" FLYERS WORK WITH LOCAL ALCOHOL, TOBACCO AND OTHER DRUGS EXPERTS TO PRESENT SUBSTANCE USE INFORMATION IN THE HEALTH CLASSES AT GF PUBLIC SCHOOLS COLLABORATE WITH LOCAL ALCOHOL, TOBACCO, AND OTHER DRUGS EXPERTS TO OFFER PRESENTATIONS FOR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL HEALTH EDUCATION CLASSES CONCERNING THE HARMS ATTRIBUTABLE TO ALCOHOL USE BY YOUTH.
