Description

The purpose of TMI's community coalition is to prevent youth substance use, build strong families, and empower the community. TMI will employ educational activities that focus on preventing the initiation of and use of substances among youth including supporting patterns of substance use that differ among populations. TMI will provide connections for resources for social determinants of health, and address root causes and risk factors related to substance use and will implement comprehensive strategies to address the individual, family, and community level risk. TMI's DFC project seeks to increase youths' perception of risk and reduce annual use of substances at 11 school sites in the martinsburg community. This DFC-funded project will implement the evidence-based too good for drugs program at school sites. TMI's DFC project will employ risk stratification methods to screen for aces and trauma among martinsburg youth to ensure they are connected to case management and behavioral health services. TMI will use the substance abuse mental health services administration's (samhsa's) strategic prevention framework (SPF) to guide coalition activities surrounding assessment, planning, capacity building, implementation of the 12-month action plan, and evaluation of performance measures to ensure programmatic success.
