Description
Cdfcc has been an active coalition in carroll county, ohio for nearly 10 years. One of the coalitions goals is to obtain sustainable funding. Applying for the drug free communities grant through CDC is one way to meet this goal. The cdfcc has been working on alcohol and tobacco substance use prevention strategies with an emphasis on tobacco and more recently vaping as a mechanism for tobacco use in youth. The DFC grant will allow for the expansion of the coalition and will strengthen the coalition membership through trainings and increasing skills to build local capacity within the community to address substance use prevention strategies. Specific strategies around alcohol and tobacco use will be to target educational opportunities to youth and parents bringing the targeted age to middle school as the most recent community health assessment identified substance use increasing in middle school aged students, and age of starting has also decreased in the last 5 years to as young as age 12. Education will be using evidence-based programs providing skills to parents to talk to their youth, and having youth involved in the development of educational videos or reels targeted at rural/country kids.
