Description

D.B.A. South dade one voice community coalition?s (sdovcc) purpose for the prevention, health and diversion project is to address the root cause of youth opioid and prescription drug use/misuse. Sdovcc uses the strategic prevention framework (SPF) process that helped to develop the county approved comprehensive community action plan 2018-2021, a process that involves an intensive assessment which illuminated critical risk and protective factors for adolescent substance abuse/misuse in miami-dade county. The strategies that will be used in to order to reduce opioid and prescription drug use/misuse among youth and change the culture and context regarding acceptability of youth opioid and prescription drug use/misuse are to implement specific, measurable, achievable realistic and time-bound objectives. These objectives will ensure that the long-term goals will be evaluated and accomplished. Our targeted area consists of south miami-dade county, ZIP codes 33176, 33177, 33186, 33187 and 33196.sdovcc?s outcomes align with the framework prescribed with cara including strategies and activities. While the goal is to prevent local youth opioid and prescription drug use/misuse among youth aged 12-18, our short-term outcomes are to: identify patterns of youth opioid and prescription drug use/misuse; increase community and provider awareness of youth opioid and drug prescription use/misuse; identify community conditions that contribute to youth opioid and prescription drug use/misuse; increase the capacity of local agencies and/or organizations to address youth opioid and prescription drug use/misuse and increase intergovernmental cooperation, coordination and collaboration on issues to prevent youth opioid and prescription drug use/misuse. Sdovcc?s intermediate outcomes are to: address factors in the community that increase the risk of youth opioid and prescription drug use/misuse; increase the promotio n of factors that minimize the risk of opioid and prescription drug use/misuse; increase the ease, ability and opportunity for youth to access settings, and to decrease the ease, ability and opportunity for youth to access opioid and prescription drugs, in which all will address samhsa?s seven strategies for community level change that are included in our strategies and activities.
