Description
Presently, efforts to support and maintain tsunami outreach are largely borne by the federal government through the national tsunami hazard mitigation program (NTHMP) of the national oceanic and atmospheric administration (NOAA) national weather service (NWS). This proposal to the NTHMP continues to place a high priority on sustaining support for outreach efforts on the coast, while building on additional risk awareness and hazard mitigation activities through new tsunami modeling. In FY 2025, we propose to undertake the following tasks: continuation of outreach related activities with dogami staff collaborating with OEM and local communities to boost tsunami hazard awareness along the oregon ccoast. Included in this task is the purchase of tsunami signage and evacuation brochures for several coastal communities. Refine our tsunami evacuation (AUTO-GENERATED) routing capabilities for oregon coast communities, which are integrated in the nanooos tsunami portal and expected to be included in the nanoos tsunamievac smartphone APP. Perform needed GIS updates to the beat-the-wave and neighborhood scale evacuation map products. Support for hosting a tsunami symposium for oregon coast emergency managers, community emergency response teams, first responders, planners and community leaders serving communities on the oregon coast. Support for CO-organizing a second tsunami inundation benchmarking workshop comprised of NTHMP tsunami modelers, MMS members, national and international scientists.
