Description

The atlantic coastal fisheries cooperative management act (ACFCMA) requires that states implement fishery management plans developed by the atlantic states marine fisheries commission (ASMFC). Currently, connecticut must implement and administer fmps for seventeen ASMFC-managed species or species groups. Each plan has strict compliance requirements such as minimum length limits, creel limits, commercial net mesh sizes, quotas, trip limits, closed seasons, law enforcement, etc., as well as annual monitoring and reporting of harvest, fishing effort, and biological sampling. This project enables connecticut to meet the compliance requirements that are necessary for effective implementation of the ASMFC fmps.
