Description

The overarching goal of the proposed project is to monitor long-term trends in population dynamics (abundance, biomass, size/age composition) of red snapper and other reef fishes in the U.S. South atlantic through continuation of a long-term (2012 - present) fisheries independent hooked-gear survey. FWC will address two primary objectives: 1) conduct a fisheries-independent hooked-gear survey off the east coast of florida during april-july from 2026 - 2028 to provide data on abundance, biomass, and size/age composition of reef fishes (e.g., red snapper, vermilion snapper, black sea bass) through time; and 2) combine project results with historical FWC hooked-gear data (2012 -2024) to quantify long term trends in population dynamics of red snapper and other managed reef fishes in support of federal stock assessments.
