Description

Everything flows to the sea so if we can determine ways, utilizing both western science as well as indigenous observation systems called kilo, to monitor our nearshore reef systems we will be able to make the best decisions for our district which can inform our research programs as well as future proposed developments in our community. We hope that by introducing students to these ways of knowing and practicing, we are influencing our youth to become the future researchers and cultural experts of our beautiful home of waimanalo. If our youth are equipped with both traditional and modern technologies they will be well equipped to be leaders well into the future. Our driving question is, "what does a healthy nearshore ecosystem look like?"
