THE PROJECT OBJECTIVES ARE TO DESIGN AND IMPLEMENT TWO, YEAR-LONG, INTERDISCIPLINARY, SINGLE-USE PLASTIC-THEMED MWEES THAT FOSTER TAMPA BAY STEWARDSHIP AMONG 2ND AND 3RD GRADERS. STUDENTS WILL BECOME FAMILIAR WITH THE LOCAL WATERSHED AND THE FISHERIES WHICH DEPEND ON IT; MAKE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN EVERYDAY ACTIVITIES AND HEALTH OF THE WATERSHED; INCREASE AWARENESS OF HARMFUL EFFECTS OF SINGLE-USE PLASTICS, INCLUDING THE RISKS TO WATERSHEDS; EXPLORE ALTERNATIVES TO SINGLE-USE PLASTICS AND ULTIMATELY REDUCE THEIR USE; RECOGNIZE INDIVIDUAL ACTIONS MAKE A DIFFERENCE; AND INCREASE STUDENT SENSE OF STEWARDSHIP FOR THE ENVIRONMENT THROUGH WATERSHED PROTECTION. WE AIM TO CREATE A COMMUNITY OF YOUNG ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDS WHO ARE ACUTELY AWARE OF THEIR PLASTIC CONSUMPTION AND THEIR ROLE IN PREVENTING MARINE DEBRIS WITHIN THE WATERSHED. THE MWEES ARE DESIGNED FOR SUSTAINED EXPOSURE. BOTH STUDENTS AND TEACHERS WILL REVISIT PLASTIC POLLUTION AND THE LINK TO WATERSHED HEALTH ACROSS DISCIPLINES AND TH
