About this award

The Michigan Street African American Heritage Corridor Commission will receive $166,750 under a Project Grant award from the Institute of Museum and Library Services' Museum Grants for African American History and Culture program. The Commission will build the capacity of five African American anchor institutions in Buffalo, New York - the Michigan Street Baptist Church, Nash House Museum, Historic Colored Musicians Club and Museum, and WUFO 1080 AM Black Radio History Collective - by developing a visitor experience plan. Representatives from the institutions will collaborate with consultants to produce a plan that shapes future interpretation, exhibitions, and wayfinding through a cohesive narrative of the Michigan Street Corridor. The plan aims to expand public programs and collections preserving the stories and structures related to themes like the Buffalo anti-slavery movement and the Civil Rights Movement.
