About this award
The Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science, Inc. received a $431,188 Project Grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) under the Museums for America program (CFDA 45.301), awarded on October 1, 2025, with completion targeted for September 30, 2027. The award supports the establishment of the Museum Education Tech Collaborative, a partnership among four Miami-based institutions—the Frost Museum of Science, Florida Museum of Natural History, Cox Science Center and Aquarium, and Miami Children's Museum—to deliver technology-focused professional development to museum educators and interpreters across Florida.
The primary deliverables include five full-day training sessions for museum educators covering emerging technologies including artificial intelligence (AI), extended reality, coding, three-dimensional (3D) printing and modeling, and robotics. Participating educators will pilot these technologies in learning experiences at their respective institutions and co-design a curriculum resource guide for museum education professionals that documents best practices and potential applications of these technologies in museum settings. This initiative aligns with the Museums for America program's core objectives of professional development and workforce capacity-building within the museum sector.
