About this award
The Bronx Museum of Arts will receive $799,458 under a two-year Museums for America Project Grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to enhance community engagement programs promoting equity and social justice through the arts. Key initiatives include deepening partnerships and improving access to public programs, commissions and residencies for local artists, and digitally accessible learning materials. Free professional development seminars and a residency program will allow emerging BIPOC artists to engage local communities through open studios, talks and workshops. The museum will also improve evaluation tools and documentation to measure program impacts. The Museums for America program aims to strengthen individual museums' public service through strategic activities advancing their missions under the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
Description
Activities will focus on enhancing access through public programs, nurturing local artists through commissions and residencies, and deepening community engagement and partnerships. Guided by a revitalized community advisory council, the museum will improve existing programs, including cultural events, storytelling programs, senior programs, and virtual platforms with digitally accessible learning materials. The museum will provide free professional development seminars for emerging artists, as well as offering a residency program for artists to engage with issues expressed by local bipoc (black, indigenous, and people of color) communities through open studio days, talks, and workshops. Additional project results will include improved measurement instruments and evaluation reports and photo and video program documentation shared through social media and the museum's website.
